~ K8ALICIOUS ~
Last Preggy Pics, taken two nights ago...

How they got themselves in this mess in the first place...

While waiting for the new baby to be born, a young tree was accidentally murdered by my grandfather's reversing vehicle; here, The Niece! examines the remains, while The Guilty Party (& Nana) can be seen in the distance...

While shopping for a new tree...

...we found a wickedly awesome carved rocking horse...

...and an oddly priced wooden toddler chair...

...but we failed to find a replacement tree.
Fast forward to this evening (12 days past her due date):

Is this the face of someone who gave birth less than two hours prior? After two solid days of weak labour and two bouts of "induction" that failed to achieve any results, her water broke. Kate was born less than an hour later. Less. Than. An. Hour. From. Start. To. Finish.

Four Generations: My Mom, My baby sister & her new baby, and my Grandmother

Great Grandma & Baby Kate

Great Grandma & Baby Kate

My Grandma & Me...
My grandparents are heading back to the U.S. at the crack of dawn; it sure was nice to be able to visit with them for a few short days. We will hopefully see them again at Christmas time.
Tomorrow morning I get to take my niece to meet her new baby sister and my son to meet his new baby cousin. I'm stoked.
It's a Girl!
Niecie Girl #2:
Kate Marie was born this evening, weighing in at 7 lbs, 5 oz.
Mama & Daddy are over the moon and The Niece! is very excited to have the baby sister she was hoping for!

Tooth Fairy
Bennett lost his *first (non-surgically removed) tooth today. How much is the tooth fairy supposed to leave nowadays? I would feel inept leaving the cute lad a dollar, as I used to receive in my pre-adult teeth days...
*His two upper front teeth were removed two months ago by a dentist, as he had an impact injury a couple years back that crushed their roots which resulted in their slow, slow demise...eventually requiring professional removal. Today he lost his lower right front tooth; the other lower left is loose as well. He's pretty close to being S.O.L. if he wants to bite into an apple or eat corn on the cob!

Waiting...
A week ago today, my sister was having sporadic contractions and we walked a fair distance with her in an effort to help the "bambino eviction process" along...

Bennett kept track of how many "buttons" he had the priviledge of pushing at various crosswalks, while I manned the stroller weighed down with a Niecie Girl and played papparazzi in an effort to make the event more eventful...

Posing for an impromptu belly shot while Bennett guards the "button"...

Doesn't she look pleased to STILL be With Child? She has only had her hospital bag packed for two months...

It turned out to be nothing substantial and the contractions subsided instead of speeding up. A week later, she is still quite pregnant. If this is the case in another week, she'll be scheduled for induction, as far as I understand.

It's amazing how much we have matured since killing time while awaiting The Niece! three years ago...

The next picture was taken on Oct. 9, 2005, when my sister was 2.5 weeks over due and still three days away from giving birth to her first born. Raking leaves did not work any better then than walking has now.
Oh, how I miss that pumpkin toque that is on Bennett's head!

Waiting for the baby cousin was such hard work! Oh, how the last three years have flown!

No need to make a trip to the pharmacy...
Bennett came down with some congestion, which brought his asthma out of summer induced remission. He missed several days of school this week due to waking up with a cough that made him sound like he was dying, even though he wasn't. After giving his immune system a few days to step up to the plate, I relented and decided drugging him might be a kind thing to do.
I was shocked when I found, in my regularly ill-stocked medicine cabinet/little blue Rubbermaid tub, that I not only had an un-opened bottle of children's cough suppressant/decongestant and a bottle of children's Tylenol, but also the g-string I haven't been able to find since we moved last month.

He made it adamantly clear that this was more fun than school. I concur.
